Anne Frank’s “Kitty” probably was based on the
character Kitty Francken in Cissy van Marxveldt’s novels, but Sietse van der
Hoek suggested she might be Kitty Egyedi, a family friend. Egyedi, although
flattered, responded that she did not consider herself Kitty, who “became so
idealized and started to lead her own life in the diary.”

Kitty’s great significance for Anne was to provide a
structure for the diary entries. In this blog, I find my own format to be
writing messages of exactly one hundred words. I hope to continue to meet this challenge
and refine my writing.
