Cosway's Confidence

This quarter, my second place award-winning story, “Cosway’s Confidence,” appears in the Bethlehem Writers’ Group Roundtable. The BWR has an annual short story contest. In 2013, my “Long in the Tooth” won third place (as determined by celebrity judge Hank Phillippi Ryan). 2020’s celebrity judge was Spencer Quinn (also known as Peter Abrahams). My story inspiration came from Maggie, my friends’ ferret, and a small eatery, with a floor brass plate opening to the lower level. What happens when the cafe owner interviews a potential employee with imaginary support ferret while the brass plate is open? Here’s the link: https://bwgwritersroundtable.com/featured-story/

Friends and Story Calls

Georgia Ruth's and my writing paths continue to cross. After meeting at the High Country Festival of the Book, our stories now appear in the July/August issue of the Bethlehem Writers Roundtable. The two competitions where our submissions were accepted have each sent out a new call. The Bethlehem Writers Roundtable seeks food stories of up to 2,500 words for its 2015 Short Story Award, opening on October 1, 2014.

Buddhapuss Ink announced it will accept 3,000 to 7,000 word submissions for the Mystery Times 2014 competition beginning July 15th to October 31, 2014. See my guest blog at: http://buddhapussink.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-writers-competitive-edge-or-how.html.

Bethlehem Writers Roundtable

In 2013, I am grateful for two featured stories published in the Bethlehem Writers Roundtable, a monthly online publication of the Bethlehem Writers Group. Founded in 2006, this Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-based community of writers has an annual short story competition. This year, the theme is “food stories” and the celebrity judge is Rebecca Forster. Entries must be original works of less than 2000 words submitted through the online form by no later than February 17, 2014. The fee for each entry is $10. My story, “Long in the Tooth,” placed third in last year's competition with celebrity judge Hank Phillippi Ryan.
